Vacuum Filtration used in isolating a solid from a suspension.
This short flash animation attempts to show you the physical processes that are at play during vacuum filtration. It shows how the vacuum (reduced pressure) is created in the Buchner flask using a simple siphon pump. It goes on to show how this causes a suction that draws the filtrate speedily through the filter paper and porous plate. It ends by drawing attention to the additional benefit of air drying the residue.
